Financial Aid

There are several types of financial aid that can help you reduce the overall cost of attending Mizzou. In fact, four out of five Mizzou students receive some form of financial aid through:

  • Scholarships: A scholarship is a financial award intended to help cover the cost of education. Eligibility is established by the donor of the scholarship. Scholarships don’t have to be repaid. Learn more about scholarships.
  • Grants: A financial aid grant is money awarded by the federal government, state governments, schools and private institutions to help students pay for education expenses. Most grants require you to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Grants don’t need to be repaid. Learn more about grants.
  • Loans: An education loan is a form of financial aid that must be repaid with interest. Eligibility is usually based on financial need. Most federal loans require you to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Limits are set on how much financial assistance students can receive in the form of federal student loans. Learn more about loans.

Veterans Benefits

Mizzou offers several forms of financial aid exclusively to service members, military veterans and family members who are eligible:

  • The Veterans Administration has several GI Bill® benefits programs based on military service. Some of these programs have benefits for eligible children and spouses.
  • The Department of Defense provides tuition assistance to eligible service members, members of the National Guard and Reserve components.
  • The Missouri Returning Heroes Education Act Grant caps tuition for combat veterans at $50 per credit hour for any class or program leading to a certificate or degree.
  • Missouri Online offers a 10 percent tuition discount for veterans pursuing one of its online degree programs.

International Students

International Students who attend Mizzou on a government sponsorship or outside scholarship need to provide an official or certified copy of the award letter issued by your sponsor. The letter must:

  • Include the U.S. dollar amount (per year) of the award
  • State that the scholarship has been awarded for study at the University of Missouri
  • List the expenses covered by the award and the maximum amounts available to cover each expense (fees, books, housing, etc.)

This letter should be sent to the International Admissions office.

Student Financial Aid Office

Mizzou’s Student Financial Aid office will work with you and your family to:

  • Calculate the cost of your education
  • Point you to resources that will help you plan for the costs of higher-education
  • Help secure the financial assistance you need to fund your education at Mizzou
