Test-Optional Admission

Freshman applicants for the Fall 2025 semester have the option of being reviewed with or without test scores. Choosing a test-optional review will mean your admissibility will be determined holistically by a committee.

How to Apply Online as Test-Optional

  1. In the Status and Interests section of the application, select “I want my application reviewed without test scores” and complete the acknowledgement that you are applying with a test-optional admission review.
  2. Complete the required short essay question in your application for admission.
  3. If you are applying with the Common Application, complete the Activities section and the personal statement.
  4. Submit the application and pay the $55 application fee. Or, if eligible, have your high school counselor submit your application fee waiver form.
  5. Send your official high school transcript to Mizzou.

Scholarships for Test Optional Students

Students who apply without test scores will be reviewed holistically for automatic scholarships (for example the Chancellor’s Award, Curators Scholars Award, Excellence Award, Mark Twain Award, Border State Award, and Black & Gold Award). This means that we will review everything in your file.

Students who apply without test scores will also be reviewed for eligibility for competitive scholarships (the Mizzou Scholars Award and Columns Award) in the same way. Students who are selected to apply will be notified and will see the applications for those scholarships on their Application Status Page. Students applying test-optional will not be eligible for Stamps Scholars.

Honors College for Test Optional Students

Test-optional students will be reviewed holistically for admission to the Honors College. Students who are eligible to apply will see the Honors College Application on their Application Status Page. The deadline to apply for Honors is March 1.

Students Ineligible to Apply as Test-Optional

The following groups of students are required to submit an ACT or SAT score:

  • Home-schooled students
  • Students who have attended a non-accredited school

Submitting Scores after Applying

Providing a test score helps us place you in the right courses and maximizes your opportunity for scholarships at Mizzou. In some cases, it also could improve your ability to gain admission.

If you choose a test-optional review because you haven’t had the opportunity to take the ACT or SAT yet, you can submit a test score after you apply. Simply email us at mizzouapp@missouri.edu to request that we use your test score.
