Best things about living in a residence hall: I met so many people just in the first week of school. Hanging out in the lounge is really fun, and the community style forces you to make so many friends on your floor.
Tips about roommates: Having a random roommate is good. First, you’re guaranteed at least one new friend on move in day. Second, since your roommate is not your best friend, you are more likely to mingle with others on your floor.
Ways to make your room like home: Buy posters at the start of the year, hang picture frames, and cover the bulletin boards with fabric and lots of pictures.
Things not to forget: Extra hangers, a few sets of storage drawers for the closet and under the bed, and lots and lots of 3-m hooks! Bins for closet storage and organizers for your desk are also helpful.
Piece of advice for new students living in a residence hall: Always leave your door open, and don’t be afraid to wander into your neighbors’ rooms. Also, get to know your CA (community advisers). Most are really fun and full of helpful knowledge. |
