Freshman Interest Groups
If you enjoy living with friends who can also help you study for exams, then Freshman Interest Groups are for you. FIG students live within a community of peers who share academic interests such as Education, Business, and Family Studies, Psychology, and Sociology. They also have access to upperclassmen, who teach and advise. More about FIGs

Study Abroad
When you study or work abroad, you’ll learn about another country’s values and customs, but moreover, you’ll discover yourself. Mizzou partners with other schools in an effort to give students a wide range of travel options. To Thailand! To Morocco! To Jordan! Or Denmark! Take advantage of the opportunity to further your learning while immersed in a new world. More about study abroad opportunities

Undergraduate Research
Undergraduate research programs allow students to take part in the other business of the University: the making of new knowledge. Students work one-on-one with faculty to solve real-world problems and gain invaluable experience. Some recent projects include: solving the riddle of estrogen-induced cancers, tracking how toddlers learn language and making Missouri roads safer.

ROTC
Mizzou offers ROTC programs in Army, Air Force and Navy (which includes a Marines program). More about Army ROTC, Air Force ROTC and Navy ROTC

Internships
Mizzou’s internship and co-op opportunities provide invaluable hands-on experience in getting acquainted with the professional world. And there are plenty of options. For example, the College of Engineering houses its own Engineering Career Services Office, the School of Journalism has its very own School of Journalism Career Center, which lists all current job and internship openings, and the College of Business has a College of Business Career Services Office, to name a few.

Civic Leaders Internship Program (CLIP)
Mizzou’s CLIP enables students to serve the State of Missouri while earning academic credit through an internship. Some examples include the attorney general’s office, the lieutenant governor’s office, the Department of Agriculture and more. More about CLIP

Service Learning
Earn respect and gratitude among the residents of Columbia while earning academic credit. Each year more than 2,000 students provide more than 100,000 hours of community service — from tutoring, to volunteering at animal shelters, to assisting the elderly, to volunteering creative resources, and more. Independent Study
If you are self-motivated and goal-oriented, and you enjoy working alone, you may want to take an independent study course. The program allows you to take a course without being present in a classroom, so you can enroll anytime and anywhere, with the added benefit of working at your own pace.

Create Your Own Major
For some students, the regular choices just don’t apply. At Mizzou, we recognize that there are bright, curious and motivated students whose interests and ambitions don’t align perfectly with only one academic degree program. One option for these students: “Create a major” by pursuing an Interdisciplinary Studies degree through the College of Arts and Science. If you have interests that span disciplines or if you have very specific career plans not easily accommodated by a single department, this may be the ticket. More about creating your own major
